Thogarihunkal Estate is located in the outer slopes of the Western Ghat, in the Chikmagalur region of Karnataka province. The area is a beautiful biodiversity hotspot and the birthplace of Indian coffee culture. The region gained its trading importance together with the beginning of coffee cultivation. The history of this estate goes back to the 1857 when T. B. Malle Gowda realised that this region was perfect for growing arabica plants. With this knowledge he established a coffee estate at 1000-1400 meters above sea level, that he ran with passion and utmost dedication. The love for coffee was further passed onto his son T. B. Nagesh, who shared his father’s passion and continued to work on the estate. One can say that even 150 years later, the passion for coffee is rooted in the community of this beautiful estate.
