The farm was purchased in early 2018 from the previous owners who struggled to maintain it due to financial challenges caused by the low coffee prices. These former owners, traditional coffee growers with limited experience in producing specialty coffee, left the farm idle for three years, with only a mere 10 percent of the land under cultivation.
A determined manager named Juan Felipe recognized the dormant farm’s potential, nestled in high-altitude, fertile terrain. He took the initiative to breathe new life into this beautiful farm. With over half of its expanse designated as a protected natural reserve, the farm serves as a sanctuary for various wildlife, including the endangered Andean bear, more commonly known as the spectacled bear. These bears are distinguished by their deep gaze, possibly owing to the “spectacles” they appear to wear.
