Outstanding coffee, ethically sourced and fully traceable

A TASTE OF PERU AWAITS

Peru, located in the heart of South America, is famous for its mountains and delicious coffee. The Andes Mountains create a variety of mini-climates perfect for growing high-quality Arabica coffee beans. This ideal environment stretches across 17 out of Peru’s 24 regions, fostering a rich coffee culture with unique flavours.

Peru is a major producer of Organic and Fair-Trade certified coffee. Many small farmers, often working together in groups, carefully handpick the beans to ensure top quality. The high altitude (between 3,300 and 5,900 feet) slows down the bean ripening, resulting in complex flavours with a balanced acidity and distinct / diverse profiles. Popular coffee varieties like Typica, Caturra, and Bourbon flourish in Peru’s rich volcanic soil.

Each region in Peru offers unique growing conditions, influencing the final taste of the coffee. For instance, beans from Cajamarca in the north tend to be brighter with floral and citrusy notes, while beans from Cusco in the south are known for their smooth body and nutty hints. Whether you prefer a lively and bright cup or a smooth and chocolaty one, there’s a perfect Peruvian coffee waiting for you to discover.

Harvest Update: A Promising Season

Peru’s coffee harvest typically happens between May and September, with some variation depending on the region. As of July 2024, the harvest is likely still ongoing in most coffee- growing areas.

This year’s harvest looks promising. It’s an “off-year” in the natural cycle of coffee production, so the yield won’t be quite as high as 2021. However, there’s an expected 12% increase in volume compared to 2022, according to Peru’s National Coffee Board. The
weather has been good for the crops, with normal rainfall allowing the coffee cherries to develop well. Hence farmers are expecting a good crop this year, especially in terms of the quality beans. There’s also been a welcome rise in coffee prices, which has encouraged farmers to take better care of their crops. This investment should contribute to a good harvest.

At Attesa Coffee, we source our beans from three distinct regions, each offering a unique taste experience: Cajamarca, Cusco, and Amazonas. Here’s a taste of what each has to offer:

  • Cajamarca: Found in the northern Andes, Cajamarca is known for its bright, citrusy coffees with a smooth body. The high altitude and volcanic soils contribute to these unique flavour profiles.
  • Cusco: The ancient Inca capital, Cusco, boasts a rich coffee history and ideal growing conditions. Our Cusco beans are full bodied with notes of chocolate and spice, often with a hint of sweetness.
  • Amazonas: This lush rainforest region in northern Peru produces some of the country’s most exotic coffees. Expect complex flavours with hints of fruit, cocoa, and earth.

We’re excited to announce that initial samples of our coffees from these regions will be available by the end of July and ready for delivery by early October. We cannot wait to try these washed, natural and sometimes fermented Typicas, Bourbons and Geishas from this harvest of Peru.

Please reach out to us if you’d like to try these Peruvian coffees. We are confident you’ll love their distinct profiles!
