Kiruru Washing Station, established in 1952, is a coffee processing station located in Kiru, Kiriaini Sub-location in Murang’a County. Located on a 5-acre plot of land, it caters to the villages of Kiriaini, Umbuni, Kiambuthia, Gikiundu, and Kagioini. Uniquely positioned within traditional tea- growing zones, the washing station operates on a biannual production cycle, harvesting coffee from March to May and October to December. THE WASHING STATION As part of the Kiru Farmers’ Cooperative, which also operates the Kora, Kamagogo, and Diara processing stations, the washing station handles the coffee cherry yield from approximately 3500 farmers. Beyond coffee, these farmers cultivate macadamia, potatoes, maize, beans, and tea for local consumption.
