Located in the municipality of Nova Resende in Sul de Minas (South of Minas), the 56-acre coffee plantation continues the region’s long tradition of coffee farming. The expansion of Nova Resende happened, in fact, as a result of many families moving there decades ago to start growing coffee. The town is set on a plateau interspersed with mountains, due to which the climate is up to 5°C cooler than its surroundings, and this elevation and temperature help to nourish the coffee.
Currently, the estate is owned by Heleno Bachião Dolivo, a fourth-generation coffee producer, who explains, “We are descendants of an Italian family. My great- grandfather, Arcanjo Bachião, came from Italy with his father, Guerino Bacchion, and lived in Paraguaçu, in Minas Gerais, for a couple of years. Then, he bought some land that was reputed to be ideal for growing coffee, in Nova Resende.” Back then, it was a simple village, and the entire family made it their home and coffee production their life.
A cross between Catuaí and Icatú, Yellow Catucaí is a high-yield coffee that is moderately resistant to pests, rust, and infections. It is processed naturally. The cherries are dried on concrete patios, where they are moved in layers until they reach ideal humidity.
